Put Some Clothes On –
Please!
It's hot outside today. I stood for just a few
minutes and sweat began rolling off my face. A topic flashed in my mind that it
is time again to deal with a very serious topic. It is inevitable I will get
some negative feedback on this subject but it must be talked about. I am not
the author of God's Word, but I am responsible (just as you) to teach what He
has taught us in His Word.
This past Sunday, I noticed several of our young
ladies. This occurs about this time each year. Seeing a couple of them made me
immediately think, "If they are wearing these clothes here, what are they
wearing elsewhere?" In the course of this article, I am not debating
whether a man should wear a coat and tie to worship or a lady should always
wear a dress versus pants and blouse. This article is simply asking us to look
at the topic of "modesty" as God has instructed in the New Testament.
Are the clothes you are wearing bringing God glory? - I Cor. 10:31 – “Whether
therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of
God."
Ladies, are the clothes you are wearing portraying
you as a godly woman? - I Tim. 2:9,10 - "In like manner, that women adorn themselves in
modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety; not with braided hair,
and gold or pearls or costly raiment; but (which becometh women professing
godliness) through good works."
Will your clothing help or hurt your influence for
Christ? Is it too short? Is it too tight? Is the neckline too low? Is it
appropriate and respectful? Is what you are wearing stating that you are pure
or are you seeking the opposite sex to look at you?
Will it encourage the opposite sex to lust after
you, causing them to stumble and sin? - Rom. 14:13 - "Let us not
therefore judge one another any more, but judge ye this rather, that no man put
a stumbling block in his brother's way, or an occasion of falling."
Men, this article is not only about the women. There
is a trend today for young men to wear very tight shirts, and sagging pants
revealing much about them as well. Can you ask yourself the same question as
these ladies? What will your response be?
Immodest dress will keep many out of heaven. I don't
mean to be harsh, but only to help you think. When others see us, they only see
the outside. What is your outside saying about you? Be honest! Then, if
necessary - go put some clothes on - PLEASE.
