This
Week’s Bible Question
What
four creatures did God send as plagues upon the Egyptians?

PURE AS SNOW
During my childhood days I would wish for a foot
of snow, especially right after the holidays. I still have some of that
childish desire in my heart. I would like to see it come a good snow
every once-in-awhile, a foot or two!
Sunday
some of my desires materialized. It snowed! It wasn't much, just a
sprinkling. The white stuff, however, was a beautiful sight to behold as
it covered the ground and clung to the bushes and trees. It disappeared
about as quickly as it fell. By mid-afternoon most of it had melted.
Did
you know that the Bible mentions snow? A courageous man named
“Benaiah" killed a lion in a pit on a snowy day (I Chronicles
11:22). God asked Job, "Have You entered the treasury of snow,
Or have you seen the treasury of hail" (Job 38:22, NKJV)? The
Scriptures also reveal that snow, like rain, is beneficial in that it
waters the earth and causes the seed that has been sown in the ground to
sprout and produce food (Isaiah 55:10).
In
another passage God said to Israel, “…Though your sins are like
scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like
crimson, They shall be as wool" (Isaiah 1:18, NKJV). Israel had
sinned, and God pleaded with them to reason with Him about their sinful
condition. God was willing to cleanse His people, to make them as pure
as snow, if they would repent of their sinful ways and obey His will.
Snow
is from God. Like snow, God desires that we be pure. In Matthew 5:8,
Jesus said, "Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see
God" (Matthew 5:8). Only those whose hearts have been cleansed
by the blood of Christ and remain free from evil desires and purposes
will live eternally in God's presence.
The
first snow of this new year was indeed beautiful, but a pure heart is of
much greater beauty, especially in God's sight.
