THE
MOOD RING
MY
HUSBAND BOUGHT ME A MOOD RING THE OTHER DAY. WHEN I'M IN A GOOD MOOD IT
TURNS GREEN. WHEN I'M IN A BAD MOOD, IT LEAVES A RED MARK ON HIS
FOREHEAD.
I
guess that’s one way to get his attention!
Unfortunately, though, that’s not the Bible way.
God has not left us without instruction on the kind of husband /
wife relationship that is pleasing to Him.
Adam
recognized that husband and wife were to be one flesh when he said, “This
is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called
Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall
cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” (Gen. 2:23-24)
Paul
gave further instruction to the Ephesian church, comparing the
relationship between a husband and wife to the relationship between
Christ and the church.
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto
the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the
head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives
be to their own husbands in every thing.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church,
and gave himself for it… So ought men to love their wives as their own
bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and
cherisheth it… For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother,
and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh…
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as
himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.” (Eph.
5:22-25, 28-29, 31, 33)
To
the church at Colosse, Paul writes, “Wives, submit yourselves unto
your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.”
(Col. 3:18-19)
Paul
tells the young preacher Titus: “The aged women likewise, that they
be…discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own
husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.”
(Titus 2:3, 5)
Peter
echoes the same thoughts: “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to
your own husbands… Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to
knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel.” (I
Pet. 3:1, 7)
Sometimes
we husbands could use a good hit up side of our heads.
But, isn’t it better to love, honor, and respect each other
instead?
May
God bless you!
