Where in The Bible Will I
Find:
A Perverted Gospel?
Paul,
and all the apostles, preached the same gospel, but Paul wrote to the church of
Christ at Galatia saying that some had "perverted" the gospel,
"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the
grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some
that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ" (Gal. 1:6-7).
He
states that there is not another gospel but some had "perverted"
the gospel of Christ, and no one could be saved by the perverted gospel, as it
would not be the power of God (Rom. 1:16).
In
today's religious world we find everything called the gospel is not Christ's
gospel. Atheists, and all non-religious people, have no interest in the gospel;
therefore, perverting the gospel is in no way a part of their way of life. By
this, then, we must assume that it is self acclaimed Christians who "pervert"
the gospel of Christ. So many people today are not satisfied with the true
teaching of God's Word and so they will change a word here and add a word there
making it each according to their own belief.
Many
of the modern translations of the Bible are "perverted." The
New International Version, or NIV; the New World Bible, and many more must be
avoided. The majority of the people do not realize that any of those versions
are the products of "perverted" teaching that comes direct
from the ministers, of Satan, "For such are false apostles, deceitful
workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel;
for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no
great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of
righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works" (II Cor.
11:13-15).
When
the gospel is perverted (twisted, added to, detracted from, etc.) it is no
longer the gospel of Christ, and when people hear a perverted gospel they will
not learn what they must do in order to be saved and this is contrary to the
design and purpose of God who is "...not willing that any should
perish..." (II Peter 3:9). God's power to keep us from perishing is
not contained in a perverted gospel.
The
true gospel of Christ still says that - faith comes by hearing God's Word
(Rom. 10:17); that we must believe it (Heb. 11:6); that we must repent of all
sins (Luke 13:3, 5); that we must confess Christ (Rom. 10:9-10; Acts
8:37); that we must be immersed in water for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38;
22:16; Mark 16:16; I Peter 3:21), and then we must live in a faithful Christian
life (Rev. 2:10).
The
seriousness of the penalty for anyone who "perverts" the
gospel is accursed, or cut off from God, "But though we, or an angel
from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached
unto you, let him be accursed" (Gal. 1:8). Some "perverters"
of the gospel claim to be inspired, infallible and miracle workers. All such
claims are contrary to the Word of God.
