Where
In The Bible Will I Find:
Reading,
Studying And Obeying God's Word?
Have
you ever noticed the library of books that surrounds the walls of some
attorney's office? Don't you know that it has taken him or her many years to
read all those books? Grant you that there is probably no attorney that can
quote verbatim all these books but if a law case comes up that requires a
review or precedent of a similar case the attorney will know exactly which
book to go to.
All
these books are important to the attorney, they are necessary for the
attorney to prepare his case in order to save his client from death or at
least from a long, prison term. But not in any of all these law books will
one find what one must do in order to be spiritually saved eternally. God's
books does not require a wall to wall library to hold them or many years of
reading in order to know what man must do in order to be saved.
All
God's books are enclosed in ONE book known as the BIBLE. This book,
depending on the print size and thickness of pages, could be so small that
it could be lost in any office or home library, but within its pages is
revealed the Words of God, His gospel plan of salvation, what man MUST do in
order to be saved spiritually.
Without
this Book, without the knowledge revealed in this Book, and without
obedience to God's will, the soul of man is lost eternally in a hell burning
fire and brimstone (Rev. 21:8). Man is not required to read or study
mountains of books in order to know just what he must do in order to be
saved. There could have been many books written about Jesus, so many, the
apostle John says that even the world itself could not contain them (John
21:25), but then he says (speaking of what is written), "But these
are written, that ye might believe..." (John 20:31).
God
requires that we study His Word (II Tim. 2:15), because at one time His
people were destroyed for the lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). If one is
interested in learning what we must do he can know exactly what God requires
each person to do in order to be eternally saved. Before the death of Jesus
on the cross He prepared His disciples to preach the gospel.
After
His resurrection, His commandment to them was "Go ye therefore, and
teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Ghost" (Matt. 28:19). The baptism taught by Jesus
was not commanded before His death but now, commencing at the inauguration
of His kingdom, His church, on the day of Pentecost in the year 33 A.D.,
everyone is commanded to “…Repent, and be baptized ... in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins..." (Acts 2:38).
In
preparation for water baptism, one must believe the Word of God (Heb. 11:6),
repent of all sins (Luke 13:3), confess Jesus as the Son of God (Acts 8:37),
and then be baptized in water which puts one in Christ (Gal. 3:27), and is
added by the Lord to HIS church (Acts 2:47).
Read,
study and OBEY for this is the Lord's way.
