Where
In The Bible Will I Find?
The
Need For, And The Establishment Of The Law Of Christ?
The
Old Law, given by God to Moses, was given only to the children of Israel
(Dent. 5:3). This law was a good law, it accomplished what God intended it
to do. Although, it was not a perfect law, that is, it could not blot out
sins, but it would govern His people until "...a better covenant,
which was established upon better promises..." (Heb. 8:6-7). God's
people have never been required to be subject to two different laws at the
same time, therefore, before a new law could be initiated, the old law had
to be taken out of the way, "...I come to do thy will, O God. He
taketh away the first [the Old Law], that he may establish the second
[the New Law]...” (Heb. 10:9-10).
The Law of Moses was removed in order to establish
the "perfect law of liberty" (James 1:25), which is the "Law
of Christ" (Gal. 6:2), or, the New Testament. The children of
Israel were the only people subject to the Old Mosaic Law as the law was
never given to the Gentiles, therefore, there stood a wall, or a partition
between the children of Israel and the Gentiles. God's plan never
"excluded" the Gentiles, for He knew that "a better
covenant, which was established upon better promises" would break
down that wall.
"But
now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off
[the Gentiles] are made nigh by the blood of Christ [by obedience to
His gospel]. For he is our peace [Savior and author of eternal
salvation, Heb. 5: 9], who hath made both [Jew and Gentile] one
new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both [Jew and
Gentile] unto God in one body [church, family of God, or kingdom] by
the cross [through the shedding of His blood, a New Covenant, Law of
Christ, or the New Testament], having slain the enmity thereby [by
removing the Old Law]: And came and preached peace to you which were afar
off [the Gentiles], and to them that were nigh [the Jews]"
(Eph. 2:13-17).
By
the death of Christ on the cross, the middle wall of partition was removed,
peace between the Jew and Gentiles was restored and they became one new man
(by baptism, Rom. 6:3-5; Gal. 3:27) in Christ. And also through Christ's
death peace between mankind and God, because, through the blood of Christ
complete reconciliation had been affected. The need for a new law was
necessary in order that both Jew and Gentile, through their obedience to his
gospel, could be added to His ONE church (Acts 2:47).
All
the Old Law of Moses, including the Sabbath, has been removed. Christ now
reigns over His kingdom, and through Him we have access to God. Any who
seeks to reach God through the Old Law is condemned. “... ye are fallen
from grace" (Gal. 5: 4).
