Where In The Bible Will I
Find:
Return To Jerusalem For All
Faith And Practice In Religion?
During
the first century A.D., it was, and had been for years, the custom for all Jews
to return to Jerusalem for their worship. When Jesus was twelve years of age
His parents made their usual trip along with the boy Jesus, to Jerusalem. After
their worship they started back home assuming that Jesus was in their company,
but after a day's journey they found Him not. They then returned to Jerusalem
to find Jesus.
In
today's religious world, it's assumed that Jesus is in their company. But to
find Jesus they must return to Jerusalem. For there, Jesus built His church in
the year 33 A.D. Terms of entrance to His church were given by Jesus and then
preached by His apostles. To know what these terms are we must return (in our
study) to Jerusalem and learn just what people were required to do then in
order to be saved and then if we believe and do the same things today, we too,
will be saved.
These
same thoughts were in the minds of those early courageous pioneers in the
restoration of the New Testament church over two hundred years ago. Some six
hundred years after the Lord's church was established, apostasy within it
busted out into Roman Catholicism, a man made religion controlled by the devil.
In
the early part of the sixteenth century the back of this old serpent was broken
by Martin Luther who sought to reform it, but a thing so corrupt that it cannot
and will not be reformed must be destroyed. There were many good and honest
men, who sought reformation, and each had many followers, but it only resulted
in the start of more denominations.
It
was in the eighteenth century, from various quarters of the world, there came a
general call that the TRUE GOSPEL must be preached. With the religious world
being divided, each having its own creed, bearing some human name, they knew
that only a complete return to the New Testament was the answer. They had a
determination, not to reform, but to RESTORE the New Testament church.
Therefore,
the great Restoration Movement was launched through the religious world
including many places in the United States. Their doctrine was to be the WORD
OF GOD, their creed, the BIBLE, they would speak where the Bible speaks, they
would be silent where the Bible is silent. They would lay aside ALL human names
and be called "CHRISTIANS," (Acts 11:26).
In
practice, there would be absolutely nothing required of any man other than that
which is taught in the Bible either by direct statement, or by approved
example, or by necessary inference. That, in all things of faith, let there be
unity; in all matters of opinion, let there be liberty: But in all things, let
there be charity. Honest people must admit, one cannot start something that had
already been started nearly two thousand years earlier. The church of Christ
today is that which returned to Jerusalem, to the year 33 A.D. and found Jesus
for ALL its faith and practice in religion.
