Where In The Bible Will I Find:

Impossible For Christians To Sin And Be Lost?

Every letter written by the apostles Paul and Peter, also the books of James, Jude, the first, second and third books of John and the book of Revelation were all written to Christians, the children of God. We need only to check the contents of these letters written to the church in the first-century which are still binding on Christians today, to see if it is possible or impossible for a child of God to so sin that the soul would be lost.

We read of only one person, Jesus the Christ, our Savior, of whom it is said, "Who did no sin, neither was guile found, in his mouth" (I Peter 2:22). Therefore, as the apostle Paul said, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23). He knew that it was possible for a child of God, even himself, to sin, and not only to sin, but to so sin that the soul would be lost, "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway" (I Cor. 9:27).

Sin is represented as darkness, and the apostle John says, "If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth" (I John 1:6). We may convince ourselves and maybe others that we are righteous but if we "walk in darkness" (sin), "we lie and do not the truth." He further states, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us…If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."

Notice what Paul said, "all have sinned," and now John tells us what we, as Christians, must do, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (I John 1:8-10). John says that we add sin to sin in denying sin in our life. That is, it's a sin for a person to claim that he does not sin. He sins in the very denial of sinning. It is possible, and we often do, commit sin physically or mentally, that is, knowingly and unknowingly, in which case John assures us that God recognizes this and has made provisions for it, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" (I John 1:7).

To walk in the light is to walk according to His truth, for light is the synonym of truth. The blood of Jesus will cleanse us of all sin, but it is conditional, the condition is, "IF" if we walk in the light as He is in the light, then His blood will cleanse us. "IF" we do not walk in the light, then His blood will not cleanse us, and "IF" we do not confess our sins then it "…bringeth forth dead" (James 1:15). Death here, means "separation from God." The Bible clearly teaches that it is "possible for a Christian, a child of God to so sin that the soul will be lost."
