Where
In The Bible Will I Find:
The
Eternal Kingdom – Home Of The Soul?
The
eternal kingdom, in the presence of God, has always been the, ultimate
desire of man! The faithfulness of Abraham is tied inseparable to this hope:
"For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and
maker is God." He and Sarah traveled through the land of promise,
yet were not satisfied: "But now they desire a better country, that
is, in heavenly wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he
hath prepared for them a city" (Hebrews 11:10, 16).
Jesus
is now in heaven preparing that home for the soul: "...I go to
prepare a place for you ... I will come again, and receive you unto myself;
that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:2-3). All of God's
faithful children will have a home in that eternal kingdom and will be with
our Lord and Saviour in the home of God. Paul assures us that “While we
look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen;
for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not
seen are eternal. For we know that if our earthy house of this tabernacle
were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands,
eternal in the heavens" (II Cor. 4:18, 5:1). That sweet home of the
soul will be far better than all our anticipations.
John
was given a glimpse of its beauty and wrote "...Blessed are the dead
which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may
rest from their labours; and their works do follow them” (Rev. 14:13).
But John, though never given a complete description of the eternal kingdom,
did describe in part the city of God that sits out on the glad hills of
God’s glory. (Rev. 21:3-4) There follows such a fabulous view of the
eternal city of our God as to beggar description! He closed with the words: "And
they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there
shall be no night there, and they need no candle, neither light of the sun,
for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever..."
(Rev. 22:4-5).
"Blessed
are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of
life, and may enter in through the gates into the city" (Rev. 22:14).
Christ shall return for His people, “In flaming fire taking vengeance
on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus
Christ; Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence
of the Lord, and from the glory of his power" (II Thess. 1:8-9). It
is at this time that He will deliver up the kingdom to His Father and then
cometh the end (I Cor. 15:24). We must OBEY His gospel to be prepared at
that time.
