Where In The Bible Will I
Find:
The Way?
For the children of God, it has always been their desire
to present the matter of salvation, the principle by which men and women are to
be saved, in such a simple way that everyone who hears may understand clearly
what the Bible points out for them to do.
We
first hear of the "way" from the prophet Isaiah, "And an
highway shall be there, and a way..." (Isa. 35:8). Isaiah pictured two
ways, one of them is called a "highway" and the other is
called a "way." Many prophecies by Isaiah concerning Jesus the
Christ were fulfilled some eight hundred years later when Jesus made His advent
to the earth.
In
that great sermon on the mount Jesus taught, "Enter ye in at the strait
gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction,
and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow
is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it"
(Matt. 7:13-14).
Isaiah
said there would be two ways, one of which man must choose. Christ presents
them: The "highway" of Isaiah is the "broad way"
of Christ, and the "way" of the prophet is the "narrow
way" in the Saviour's sermon. The prophet said, "...and a way,
and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it;
but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err
therein" (Isa. 35:8).
Christ
said, "...I am the way..." (John 14:6). He never said, "I
am A way…I am SOME way…I am ONE way of many," but He said, "I am
THE way." “The” meaning
the only way. By this, then, we must learn, know, and follow THE way in order
to be saved, because any and ALL other ways will be following the "broad
way" which leads to a fiery destruction. The straight gate, the "narrow
way" of Christ is easy to understand if we will read and obey His
teaching. Paul says that faith comes by hearing God's Word (Rom. 10:17.
Therefore, we must study God's Word, we must know what it says, then we must
OBEY it. (James 11:22).
After
studying the Bible, believing it to be the Word of God, we will find that we
must repent of all sins (Luke 13:3, 5), we must confess that we believe that
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God (Matt. 10:32-33; Rom. 10:9-10;
Acts 8:37), be buried with our Lord by immersion in water (Mark 16:16; Acts
2:38; 22:16; I Peter 3:21), and then the Lord will add us to HIS church (Acts
2:47).
All
spiritual blessings are in Christ (Eph. 1:3), and Paul tells us the ONLY way we
can be IN Christ, "For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ
have put on Christ" (Gal. 3:27). To put ON Christ is to be IN Christ.
So, by following the "way," the way we find in God's Word,
puts us IN Christ, in HIS church, His kingdom, then we must live a faithful
Christian life in order to receive that beautiful promised crown of life (Rev.
2:10).
