Where In The Bible Will I
Find:
Date Setting And The Kingdom
Of God?
Today,
many people think more about setting dates for the return of Jesus than they do
reading and studying just what the Bible says on the subject. Date setting for
the second coming of Christ has always been a popular speculation for some ever
since His ascension hack to heaven in the first century A.D.
The
Bible plainly teaches that no one knows just when Jesus will come again. The
Holy Spirit says through the Gospel writers, "But the day of the Lord
will come as a thief in the night..." (II Peter 3:10), while some are
saying, "peace and safety" (I Tim. 5:3), and "...Where
is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things
continue as they were from the beginning of the creation" (II Peter
3:4).
Paul
says the Lord "...shall descend from heaven with a shout..."
(I Thess. 4:16), but we do not know the day nor the hour for His return (Mark
13:32-33). The faithful promise of the Lord is, "...I will come
again..." (John 14:3). Jesus was scourged, mocked, ridiculed, and
crucified before He left this earth, but when He comes again He will come in
glory, power, honor and judgment. On His first appearance he came as the
Savior, on His next appearance He will be The Judge. He will call forth all the
dead from the graves, the righteous dead and then the righteous living, all
shall meet Him in the air as He will not set foot on the earth again.
Many
false religious leaders like William Miller, C.T. Russell, J.H. Rutherford and
others have deceived many by setting different dates for the Lord's return.
But, of course, they were wrong as usual. To save face, some of these deceivers
declared that Christ did come but only was seen by a select few. Whereas the
Bible says, "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see
him..." (Rev. 1:7).
Do
not let any of these false prophets con you into believing any thing that is
not written in God's Holy Word - NOT their Mormon's, or Russell's books,
because these books were written by man and NOT
by God. Our King is now reigning over His kingdom and He is coming back. The
plan of God is that Jesus will, at His coming, deliver up the Kingdom to God
the Father and then cometh the end (I Cor.
15:22-28). Many people are not IN Christ and will not be ready for His
coming. They have only in this life to prepare for that great Judgment Day.
Christ
is now your Savior. Obedience to His Word is what He demands. After death, He
becomes your Judge. He is waiting now for you to believe His Word (Heb. I1:6),
repent of all sins (Luke 13:3, 5), confess Him as the Son of God (Acts 8:37),
and be immersed in death with Him in water for the remission of sins (Acts
22:38), and He will add you to His church (Acts 2:47), which is the kingdom of
God.
We have no way of knowing just when Jesus will be coming back, but we do know
He is coming, and now it is very important that we be ready when He does come.
We can be ready by doing God's will (Matt. 7:21).
