Where In The Bible Will I Find:
Everyone Facing Eternity
With God Or The Devil?
One of the hardest truths that faces man is the
truth about eternity. Just how long is eternity? Will one be conscious in
either place, and is there time there as we know it?
Time as we know it is from birth to death, or from
creation to the present. To contemplate millions of years is beyond us. Yet,
before we were born, we realize that countless generations came and passed as
there will even after we have passed on, that is, providing it is the will of
God. Everyone must face the staggering truth about eternity. Where did things
come from, where will they go? These and many other questions face us as we
consider our place in time, history and eternity.
Only God provides the truth about this hard truth.
The Bible answers simply: "In the beginning God..." (Gen.
1:1). The Bible says all that has been made came from God, all that exists was
formed through His power. The Bible places eternity into the
hands of God. More importantly, the Bible says that you and I will exist
throughout eternity. The human soul is immortal and will not die. "Marvel
not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves
shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the
resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of
damnation" (John 5:28-29).
Jesus promised that all will
exist past the tomb. Some will live with God, others will be condemned. This is
a hard truth. Sometime you must make a decision as to where everything came
from and why it was made or how it came into being. You must further decide
what role you play in the vast scheme of the universe. You may want to put this
out of your mind, but eternity still stares you in the face. Jesus says you can
have an eternity that is wonderful, an existence with God and all His children,
or you may reject His Word and face eternity in a burning hell with the devil
and his angels.
That may seem like a hard truth, but "The
Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is
longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that
all should come to repentance" (II Peter 3:9). You can believe you
will die, never to live again, in which case your life and existence are rather
meaningless. Or you can put your trust in God and find purpose, even beyond
life and throughout eternity.
These are hard truths, but must be faced. God has
promised, "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord
Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire
taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our
Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the
presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power" (II Thess. 1:7-9).
This, too, is a hard truth, but you and I will face God.
