Where In The Bible Will I
Find:
The Results Of The Judgment?
In
the Judgment scene described by Jesus in Matthew 25, there are only two
possible outcomes. To the wicked Jesus will say, "Depart from me, ye
cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his
angels" (v. 41). To the righteous, "Come ye blessed of my
Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the
world" (v. 34).
There
is no third verdict possible. We don't like to think about hell, but we had
better think about it! Jesus describes it as "the furnace of fire:
there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matt. 13:42). The rich
man, spoken of by Jesus, cried for mercy, "I am in anguish in this
flame" (Luke 16:24). John describes, in graphic terms, the scene
showed to him, "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake
of fire and brimstone, where are also the beast the false prophet; and they
shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever…Death and Hades were cast
into the lake of fire. This is the second death, even the lake of fire. And if
any was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of
fire" (Rev. 20:10-15). For the righteous, a different eternity
awaits. "These things have I written unto you, that ye may know that ye
have eternal life…" (I John 5:13).
When
Jesus returns, and the graves are opened, the dead "shall come forth;
they that have done good, unto the resurrection of judgment" (John
5:29): For, "we have a building from God, a house not made with hands,
eternal in the heavens" (II Cor. 5:1 ). There is no way to adequately
describe heaven, although John gives us some glimpses of the glories of that
place in Revelation. Paul wrote, "Things which eye saw not, and ear
heard not, and which entered not into the heart of man, whatsoever things God
prepared for them that love him" (I Cor. 2:9).
My
friends, Judgment Day is coming. This is the only time, during our life on this
earth, that we have to prepare for that event. The only possible preparation is
life in Jesus Christ, as He said, “No one cometh unto the Father, but by
me" (John 14:6). Come to Him in faith (John 8:24), repent of your sins
(Luke 13:3, 5), confessing Jesus as the Son of God (Acts 8:37), and then be
immersed in water for the remission of your sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16), which will
put you "in Christ" (Gal. 3:26-27; Rom. 6:3-4),
where all the blessings of God are promised (Eph. 1:3).
Your
works, and faithfulness to God will he remembered and rewarded in that Great
Day of Judgment (Rev. 22:12). Many people refuse to believe in the Judgment and
the "fire" of hell, but God said it many times in His Word.
Did He tell us the truth? To refuse His Word while on earth, seals our destiny
for eternity; for there will not be a second chance after death.
