Where
In The Bible Will I Find: How
The Blood of Christ Is Applied In Salvation? The
blood of the paschal lamb protected the house in which the Israelites stayed (Exo.
12:7). The paschal lamb was the type of Christ and His offering for salvation,
"…For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us" (I Cor.
5:7). The church of Christ was purchased with His blood, "Take heed
therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost
hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased
with his own blood" (Acts 20:28). We should never take lightly that
great blood bought institution, but rather, we should always remember that it
cost the blood of our Lord and it is His blood that cleanseth us, "But
if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with
another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin"
(I John 1:7). Blood
has always been used in the remission of sins, "And almost all things
are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no
remission" (Heb. 9:22). The blood of animals, under the Old Law, had
to be offered over and over but was never sufficient for a continuous cleansing,
"For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of
goats should take away sins" (Heb. 10:4), but in Christ, "In
whom we have
redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches
of his grace"
(Eph. 1:7). Christ's
blood was shed once and was for all mankind; for all those before His death,
as well as all those who were to be born on earth after His death, as the
prophet foretold, "...half of them toward the former sea, and half of
them toward the hinder sea..." (Zech. 14:8). His blood flowed back to
Eden, and flows on to the end of time. Thus the blood of Christ was shed at
the cross for the redemption of men of all ages, both before and after, and so
by Jesus Christ, all have the hope of eternal inheritance through obedience to
His Word. He shed His blood for us, He has done His part, now, we must do our
part by coming in contact with His blood. Paul tells us how this is done, "Know
ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized
into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death; that
like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so
we also should walk in newness of life" (Rom. 6:3‑4). When we are immersed in water we are baptized into His death where the saving blood is applied, we are then IN Christ (Gal. 3:27), where all spiritual blessings are (Eph. 1:3). By our faith in Christ, we are buried in baptism. Our faith is NOT in baptism; nor in the waters of baptism, but our faith is in God, who, since He raised up Jesus, will also raise us up to walk in newness of life if we OBEY Him (Matt. 7:21; Heb. 5:9). All who are baptized INTO Christ are then added by the Lord to His church (Acts 2:47). |
